Keeping Horses Warm in Winter

Test insulation, decode rug labels and choose the right rug for a real forecast.

Horses are far better at cold than we are — and far worse at being over-rugged. This project covers thermoregulation and the thermoneutral zone, runs a hands-on insulation experiment with warm water bottles and different fabrics, then asks your child to choose rugs for a week of real weather and cost a sensible rug wardrobe.
